The Pre-K program follows the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Pre-K curriculum and is aligned with the Common Core Standards. Therefore, each student will be learning about the foundations of our Catholic faith on a developmentally appropriate level. Foundations from both "Learning without Tears" and the "Wilson Reading Program" are implemented in the instructional time to ensure each student has mastered the skills needed in language and literacy to move on to Kindergarten.
Religion, known as "God Time" in the Pre-K classroom, is a significant part of the educational experience as well. Along with the rest of the school, students in the Pre-K class get to attend "specials" classes such as Science, Music, and Art just to name a few.
There are many supplemental learning and social activities students of the Pre-K class participate in each year. For example, in the Fall the Pre-K class receives a unit lesson on the life cycle of a monarch butterfly that includes the release of an actual monarch butterfly. To foster community building, Pre-K and Kindergarten have "Munchkin Meetings" several times a year to participate in fun-filled activities together.
Additionally, students of the Pre-K class get to participate in school-wide assemblies and attend Mass with their fourth-grade prayer partners. Each student who attends the Pre-K program at Holy Rosary receives an education that nurtures their cognitive as well as their social development in a school setting.
